IN ME A HOSTAGE

IN ME A HOSTAGE

Free to go away, free to fly away but I stay,

Unlock this prison, it’s safe to walk outside.

Sentenced was I by this man in a mirror,

Hold on tight as through the night chained as I sleep.

A crime of love, guilty and my choice clearly seen,

Scars it carries, in me a hostage clinging to yesterday.

To the ground I fell like a broken doll, crumbled,

A gun to myself pointed, not knowing it was empty.

Behind bars for no reason, put there by a jury of one,

No judge sitting up high, only myself reading the verdict.

I held myself prisoner for many months as the keys sat before me,

With eyes opened I grabbed those keys and let a man free, walk.
