CAN’T WE BE FRIENDS?

                               CAN’T WE  BE FRIENDS?

Punched in the mouth, knocked to the ground,

Words behind one’s back, they don’t make a sound.

Family quarrels may lead to never speaking again,

Those we are close to can be lost in the end.

Anger in the streets, get out of my way,

I’m just too busy, is this the American way?

Neighbor to neighbor, most don’t really care,

I’m on my way somewhere, don’t speak to me, don’t you dare.

Fighting on social media, screaming on your phone,

Keep away from my house, just leave me alone.

Everyone’s angry from place to place,

I don’t want to talk; stay out of my face.

Can’t we be friends?  perhaps some day,

But for now, get out of my way.
