PAINTED CLOUDS

I walk the morning, the air has a chill and a breeze,

Out in the distance above the hills they float like balloons.

Shapes or sizes and colors of difference,

Splashed across the sky are painted clouds.

Vanish, they go away for a moment in time,

Reinvented, shapes from heaven above.

Pastel colors appeared in my sight,

Rays of light from the sun trying to peek through.

An invisible smile, a memory of a face sketched,

Forever in my mind eyes of beauty, a voice that echoes,

Through the clouds.

ADRIFT AT SEA

No memory have i of how this came to be,

Lost and alone, just me and the sea.

Day after day, across endless water,

Above only the sky and the seagulls that fly.

Get by do i with only little water and food,

Maybe a hope and a prayer that it may get me through.

In the distance perhaps a dolphin or whale,

My imagination is running wild.

Thinking of what’s below me scares me some,

Loneliness is worse fore nobody listens.

A dream am i having or my personal hell,

Until the end of this i’ll not be able to tell.

Up ahead, what is it that i see,

My hope and prayer is answered to me,

No longer will i be, adrift at sea.

FROM A LONG TIME AGO

I lived lifetimes ago on farmland worked with hands, a man’s hands,

A family we were, my wife, children, and animals for pets, back in time.

Possibly i went by the name of Sam, a man of principles, of beliefs,

My children may have been raised to believe in the lord, to respect.

If a wife i did have then she might have been a beautiful woman,

She would have been a great cook and a fine and descent person.

Imagine there would have been much love in our home,

Working hard from sunrise till sunset would have been this family.

Friends and neighbors with names now vanished into a memory,

A town that may have existed but no longer alive, a long time ago.

I may have been known as Sam from a long time ago, maybe so,

Land i may have owned and worked my fingers to the bone.

It’s possible this man of beliefs had a family that he loved so much,

I could have had children of which grew up and had families too.

To a man named Sam who may have lived a long time ago,

Whom may have lived with a loving wife, children, and had

Many caring and good friends, if i had known you from a long time ago.

I AM A WRITER

What’s a writer, One whom picks up a pen or types out stories,

Poems from the heart, words put together about worldly dreams.?

A great writer is to the world one whom creates the best poems and stories,

The one who does finish each writing is to me great fore they have created.

There are great writers in history, Mark Twain, Robert Frost, Emily Dickinson,

They had their own style, thoughts, and the way that they saw the world.

Who can say that we as writers are or aren’t great, we write and i say we are,

I have my own style and thoughts, i write from my heart, I am a writer!

I believe that my writing touches the hearts, souls, and minds of those who read,

I don’t have a famous name but it’s as good as any, I am Keith Garrett and i write.

My writing is my own, I have over two thousand poems that i share daily with you,

I hope they touch your day, know that yours does the same, we are great in our own way.

THE WARRIOR

Dressed for battle, he stands ready to fight, the warrior,

Fear lives within him fore this emotion brings wisdom.

Strong, as he fights for that which he believes,

A lonely way of life but a man makes a choice, a stand.

A family, not in this souls plans, born to walk alone,

This chosen way that may haunt is just a house of cards.

It’s not said that a bad man is he, quietly the sun rises for him,

This path chosen, a quiet one if those choose to let it be not a fight.

Always ready for battle, though silently lives in the shadows,

This wanting to be left in peace man is a warrior on his own.

A POEM TODAY

Thoughts, many sights from my mind, visions from the past,

Dreams about tomorrow, what may be, a poem today.

To write is a beautiful thing, whatever you want it to be,

Change the world with a stroke of a pen, fact or fantasy begins.

Share with those whom do write and dream, those who do see,

Share our stories together as we travel the world and universe.

We have the ability to take ourselves and others away to unusual places,

A poem today about the love between two, the sun and moon.

Hopes and dreams, struggles and pain of life, what keeps us strong,

A poem today that puts a smile on a face, comfort and strength for a moment.

CHILDREN WERE WE

Echoes in time, treasured sounds dreamed in my mind,

From a lifetime ago in a place from the past, a town.

Walking in the streets, a simple time remembered,

Shadows, ghosts of friends thought of once in awhile.

Warm Summers with not a care in the world for us,

Young were we as if today might be yesterday.

With the wind the years are swept away into today,

The voice of a woman, a girl brought from a distant day.

Children were we just a moment ago, only a moment ago,

From a man to a woman again i might know, images of children,

Thoughts of a place sometimes traveled in my mind alone.

QUIETLY LONELY

Sad was the day as a man passed my way, tear down his face,

Was blue the shade he wore as he faded beyond my sight.?

Anger was in her heart, on her face shown through like fire,

Would red be a noticeable color, a shade she wears into her day.?

Jealousy fills many thoughts from those with insecure hearts,

So is green your color chosen as you journey out into a world begins.?

Fear Is an emotion, a boy was so afraid that he huddled in a corner,

Does he see yellow fore there’s a difference as he’s not a coward.

Pain and despair of the sick and elderly are seen in our world today,

Colors of emotion, do they wear, possess the images of black and purple,

What color of emotion do you wear regularly, what shade on this day.?

FOR YOU

The river’s wide, the water rushes down stream,

The sound echoes through the trees, there is you.

As the morning awakes to the rising sun above,

Quiet in the shadows early is still, I think of you.

Winds of the changing season whisper to me,

Days of light are less, where are you, a smile so true.

Birds that fly in the sky hope for another breath of life,

Soar into tomorrow they do, I search for you, for you.

Waves that crash on the nights sandy beach are heard,

Walking the dark shore of earth, I want for you things of beauty.

Beyond the sky a lightened moon so full guide footsteps that travel,

There is me and there is you, where are we, where are you.?

Clouded thoughts but a smile i do wear as each day is a mystery,

A wish for you, a dream for you, happiness and love always for you.

The hills are alive with many years of history, standing strong,

There is history within you, my thoughts of you, love for you.

With a heart that gives, this is you, i drop to my knees,

My everything i would give to you, i would be me for you.

NOT MUCH DO I WANT

A roof over my head, a bed to rest my weary head,

Food on the table, a shower and a place to sit.

Healthy inside, a little money so i may survive,

A friend or two, love is really quite a miracle.

Not much do i want as this is about all i need or want,

Things that are still free to enjoy are in my sight.

The rising, morning sun is a sight taken much for granted,

See the sky, the clouds drifting by, look always up so high.

The wind would be beautiful to see, feel the winds beauty,

A smile during a falling rain, a gift with hope will always remain,

Not much do i want, simple things as i live each given day.
