RIDE OFF INTO THE SUNSET

Going out In style, everyone has their moment, their time to shine,

Running and dancing, climbing hills, riding skateboards In our youth.

Not to say that one can’t live or enjoy all these things In our later lives,

No matter the exercise or the love of that which we do we will slow down.

The basketball star moves with energy and vitality along the open floor,

He passes the torch and says goodbye and moves on to a different day.

He throws the football to the cheers of the fan, for many years a star,

He sets the ball upon the ground then walks from the stadium to a hall of fame.

Swing the bat, a baseball hero plays for many seasons of Springs and Summer days,
When the cheers are nomore his bat Is headed for a place called Cooper’s town U. S. A.

Nothing Is less or more Important for one person than It Is for another, we all see the setting sun,

For whatever we do the day will come when we all will ride off Into the sunset, we lived.

TURN AROUND

Wherever you may be standing then there’s something to see,

Watch what’s In front of you, keep your eyes on the horizon.

Be ever so careful, always on that which surrounds your world,

Turn around, something Is there, what might It be, beware.

There are times when we need to turn around and see yesterday,

Remember where we have come from and what we have learned.

Turn around once In awhile to your past, look hard to see friends missed,

Turn around to understand, see your regrets but leave them there.

We can turn around to many things, always be able to see what’s behind,

There’s no turning back to yesterday except In your thoughts and ageing mind.

THEY WOULD BE FOREVER

They met before the beginning of world war two, a lifetime ago,

A young man and woman just starting out, war was coming.

He would enlist In the army and go away, would he survive to return,

Pearl harbor and many other places for a young man to see,

In another time beauty, death and destruction for a moment In time.

They would be forever as this young woman would follow her love

On his travels to many different places In this world.

After his time In a war never forgotten but wished to be forgot

They settled In a town called Monrovia In California for a life.

As they are now married for I believe sixty seven years and sit

Together each day with smiles always on their faces and much faith.

There was a time when once these two young people had hope for

The future as each night they slept on a floor of dirt with only togetherness.

They built their home here and have had a long and happy life,

Now In their nineties they are still active with their family, friends, and each other.

They’ve done a wonderful thing over the years as these kind hearted souls

Adopted more than once giving homes to children, life and happiness, a chance.

To two people whom are holding hands watching the sun go down, they would be forever,

Harold and Blanche,

THE WAY IT IS

The leaves, they fall from the standing trees,

Birds In the sky fly, short are their lives.

A boy and girl holding hands In the dark,

An Image In time as they become man and woman.

Seasons of four change through the year,

Love has a season, sometimes a lifetime.

The nights are always dark, a still quiet,

Just as the day Is light, the world Is alive.

Summers with friends often come to their end,

Time marches on, that’s the way It Is.

Fly away little bird, animals run till they’re done,

A son, a daughter go away with the setting sun.

The way It Is, just the way It Is,

We’re born to die, someday too touch the sky.

FREEDOM OF SPEECH

Freedom of speech, the words, phrase, and the meaning are not clear,

It Is our right we are told that speak we may In public our own way.

There Is no such thing as saying what you’re thinking out loud In the streets,

They say that It’s your right but you better be careful of what you are saying.

How much freedom of speech do we really have, I do know not that much,

I had my Attorney tell me about freedom of speech, that anyone can say what they want.

There Is no freedom of speech In the work place, try It and see what happens,

Management can not call you names, sing songs over the radio about you and your problems.

They can not make fun with a tune about the tragedy’s Of your life In front of customers,

Stress and harrassment are the words that come to mind, Ignore them Is not an option.

There may be freedom of speech to a point but there Is something called rights,

People are killed depending on how they choose to use their speech, there are rules.

Watch what you speak as there are those with the power to make you go away,

Freedom of speech Is a right, there are consequences when not done the way some

Want, watch what you say, freedom of speech holds a high price today.

THOUGHTS OF HEAVEN

Heaven Is somewhere but Is It really up so high beyond the ending sky,

Could there be a fog like place, are there fluffy clouds all around.

Believe do I that It does exist somewhere beyond the universe,

I believe that heaven Is In a demension within all that exists.

A beautiful land of green grass and peaceful hills there would be,

An Inner world that can be Imagined and believed by those with faith.

Each of us may believe that heaven Is someplace high above but where Is up,

The earth rests In space, floating In a universe that has no known ending.

Could there be a place on the other side, a spiritual resting place for eternity,

God and Jesus are closer than we know, Heaven Is a place we’ll one day know.

WHEN YOU WERE A CHILD

You were just standing there weren’t you, yesterday you were a child,

Only a moment ago It seems like today, years ago now as those days are gone.

At times life seems so very long which Is a wonderful thing,

Wake up do you to a morning, one just like before but something has changed.

The dreaming child, the one whom believed In magic and wishes has gone away,

They are alive kept always Inside, bring them out for a day so that they do not die.

When you were a child the sun would shine while riding your bike along side friends,

Days seemed to never end, not a care In the world playing hopscotch or a treehouse

Built In a field by boys whom were young then disappeared Into many years ahead.

Pretending was you that little girl who wished to be a princess and daddy was the hero,

Chasing butterflies and jumprope, teaparties were magical the day when you were a child.

Playing kick the can walking down the street,

Having sword fights with sticks pretending they were guns.

Model airplanes and sleepovers, making tents for the night,

Baseball In the park, flying kites watching the sun going down.

When you were a child yesterday for just a little while.

IF I WALKED ALONE

Sometimes we wish and find there to be another side of It,

When this world appears to be to much for me to handle

I sometimes wish that there were no people In this land.

If I walked alone at times I might think a dream come true,

No noise would be a pleasure but when would the quiet be a curse.

Walking through the streets beneath the light of the sun,

All alone such a peaceful journey until the day Is done.

Darkness will come, a place not special for me, a night alone an eternity,

If I walked alone everything would be mine to call my own.

Watch what you wish for as there are two sides to every want,

If I walked alone then alone I would be,

No value or meaning without another to see.

WHEN SLEEP DOES NOT VISIT

Suddenly as fast as I visit sleep then awake do I to the late night,

Not a pleasant adventure as tired is my mind, body, and eyes.

Stories are told by me, seen over and over as I lay there awake,

Television shows In detail, memories played repeatedly,

Thoughts of the day, thoughts of many yesterdays come to mind.

Good or bad, I can’t sleep as my brain try’s to figure out and

Understand that which can’t be ever changed, endless headache.

When sleep does not visit there Is no clue to what wanders the mind,

Why these life experiences keep me searching for answers always.

When sleep does not visit me then I must turn to fantasy for sleep.

WHEN I WRITE

Close your eyes and see If a picture comes to mind,

A thought about something seen out in the world.

Could It be possibly a scent In the air that holds a memory,

Tasting a favorite food that reminds one of a place in time.

When I write there are many possibilities that come to life,

I might just close my eyes for a moment and breathe.

A title appears In my mind, words from feelings arrive,

Inspiration comes from different things that are explored.

When I write day or night the world belongs to me,

Whatever I write when I write Is share for you to read.
