REMEMBER CHRISTMAS IN YORBA LINDA?

                                REMEMBER CHRISTMAS IN YORBA LINDA

It was winter, the trees lost their leaves, nights got colder,
I remember one year when it really got cold and windy.
There actually was snow, enough to throw snowballs,
The temperature dropped, the yards were white, remember?
Yards were decorated with bright, colorful lights, beautiful
             At night,
I'm not sure if I or anyone of my age appreciated those
             Times enough.
We couldn't wait for Christmas vacation, sleeping in on
             Cold Saturday mornings,
Going to the mall to shop for gifts for family or maybe that
             Special someone.
I think we were given the greatest gift back then, the gift
             Of Yorba Linda,
If you lived there and loved it then you'll remember there
             Was nothing like it.
You're supposed to leave the past in the past but
I remember Christmas in Yorba Linda,
I want to go back there, stand in the street, walk the
Sidewalks where friends walked with me.
Remember Christmas in Yorba Linda, when you awoke
In the morning, your family was there,
It means more today as for some of us, for some of us
It will never be the same,
             I remember a town.

M,erry Christmas to everyone who ever lived in Yorba
             Linda,
             Remember Christmas in Yorba Linda.

A MESSAGE FROM SANTA

                                                 A MESSAGE FROM SANTA

A long way from you as I and all of my team get ready,

Throughout the year we plan to make winter and
    Christmas Special.

Some joy is needed in the world, It's almost Christmas
    My friends,

I've been watching, seeing so much division among
    Human beings.

Hatred is consuming the land, wasted time over being
    Offended,

Love seems to be less in the world, a gift that disappears.

Within the holiday season, there are those who do
   Give much more,

Some take the pain and anger of their days into other
   Lives I see.

How about puting away your rage, take the good cheer
   Beyond this year,

A tear it brings to the eye while we fly high on a
   Christmas Eve night,

Seeing wars that need to be removed from sight, pray
   On this flight.

A message from Santa, a thought for each and everyone
   To explore,

Go beyond this special season and give just a little more.

      Keith Garrett

TWELVE ELVES

                 TWELVE ELVES

Christmas, nineteen sixty six, I was close to five years old,

I remember this because I recall many things from my past.

I sat on our couch watching the snow come down, I was young,

Christmas magic lives for a child in an Amesbury town.

I think of them, twelve elves on the tree, Green and red clothing,

I believed that they all came to life after we went to bed on
  Christmas eve.

Their faces were so shiny, they hung there in silence until the
  Night was quiet,

Whatever happened to you all, twelve elves of red and green,
  Goodnight all.

WHEN A SNOWMAN SAYS GOODBYE

         WHEN A SNOWMAN SAYS GOODBYE

Visiting for only a short time each year during Winter,

A friendship not long lived but renewed time after time.

Enemy of this man of white rests in the sky up high,

Shines does the sun as temperatures rise as the season
  Hides.

Dressed for the occasion, a hat of black, scarf, buttons
  And pipe,

Disappears slowly from day to day and dawn till dusk,

When a snowman says goodbye he'll be back again in a
  Years time,

                                                       Keith Garrett

RUN GINGERMAN, RUN!

   RUN GINGERBREAD MAN, RUN!

Created one day, made from cookie dough were you,

Baked in an oven to become the Gingerbread man.

Came to life fore you were ready to run, so run away,

You're a tasty treat roaming the land, what sees you?

Run Gingerbread man! run fast! your time will not last,

Smarter and hungry is the fox that stalks what runs.

The more you travel the closer he gets, he smells you,

So run Gingerbread man! run to the fox! he waits.

CHRISTMAS STOCKINGS

               CHRISTMAS STOCKINGS

Each year when Winter comes and Christmas is here,

Stockings are hung with tradition by the chimney you see.

I was told of a story when once I was a child, of elves,

These tiny beings hung on our tree every Winter season.

I have never forgotten them since the time I was young,

It was said they climb down the tree after all are asleep,

Making their way across the room, search for those
  Christmas Stockings.

Magic as in the morning they went from empty to full of a
  Season of joy,

Tiny elves dressed in red and green, from a long time ago,
 Not a dream.

CHRISTMAS AND WHAT I’M THANKFUL FOR

CHRISTMAS AND WHAT I’M THANKFUL FOR

Christmas comes but once a year, there is a magic that does appear,

For me, there is a change in the year, always something great to appear.

It’s not about gifts that rest below a tree, material things given for free,

Sharing a day, being with family, maybe enjoying some food and that’s okay.

I share my writing, It’s posted on the internet for all souls to read,

I decorate our home with lights and many other Christmas dreams.

Movies of the season are a treat, hope, and magic in December to be seen,

Christmas is free, it doesn’t cost a thing,  a day enjoyed, by family and friends.

I’m thankful for my family of which we are still living on this earth,

Thankful for that which we survived, love in our lives, we have survived.

A roof over our heads from the cold, a warm fire, food that may not be much,

A shower, a blanket covered for warmth, I’m thankful for all that we have.

I have been called selfish but I am me.

A CABIN AT CHRISTMAS

                                                                               A CABIN AT CHRISTMAS

Head off up into the mountains this Winter, get away,

Leave behind all the hustle and bustle, just some peace.

Me and you and a few loved ones too, away to the snow,

A quiet holiday to a place we can play, no worries.

No tree, no lights, no decorations or commercial of the season,

Only a couple precious gifts that mean the most from the heart.

Noise and stress left far in the distance is a present of much value,

Thankful for those whom love us, fortunate if we may love another.

Sitting around a warm fire with the smell of pine everywhere,

Sipping rum or perhaps warm apple cider for some.

Telling stories about Christmas memories, about special Winters,

A cabin at Christmas is a wish of a gift, what else could be wanted.

A dream of a gift would be a kiss on the lips from her, that woman,

Always in your mind, never ending thoughts, a cabin at Christmas.

                                               Merry Christmas, Keith Garrett
