FROM A CHILD’S MIND

FROM A CHILD’S MIND

The innocence of a child, we can see it everyday while they run and play,

Close your eyes and think back, think hard to a place where once you were young.

Thinking as only a child may think and imagine the world as the perfect playground,

For the average, dreaming, child death is a lie, an imaginary story in a scary book.

Fairytales are a reality like living forever or as i did believe one hundred years was life,

As a young boy I would lay down on the sidewalk feeling the warmth of the sun,

Listening to the airplanes fly high in the sky with my eyes closed, pretending many things.

From a child’s mind it is a world of magic, rainbows, and that anything is possible exists,

Energy of a different kind is possessed, energy that an adult one day can not again find.

From a child’s mind most things are simple, reason or logic has no place in their magical space,

The innocence and magic of a child will suddenly disappear into the adult world where the

Reality of survival, racism, hatred, and war will soon take their long ago Innocence far away.

FROM 18 UNTIL THIS DAY

FROM 18 UNTIL THIS DAY

Much younger was I back when the sun rose much higher in the sky,

Still but a teenager as once a thought that i might have been a man.

When I was eighteen i was going to the beach, dreaming about life ahead,

Long blonde hair and searching for that always wanted Summer tan.

The sun begins to move west and I go beyond those teen years,

I follow the sun, it looks down upon me each morning then i chase it.

I walk the road, I live my life, the sun travels further than i can run,

The more i follow then the older i seem, i have dreamed, no more eighteen.

I am older than some friends once were, older than a father gone far away,

From 18 until this day I have changed in different ways, the sun now half way.

“FRIENDS”

“FRIENDS”

Do you recall your first friend, do you know them today,

Did they disappear with childhood and drift beyond another day.

I had a friend, a lifetime ago, back when i was only four, i remember,

His name was Donnie, glasses, a Winter cap, a long time ago friend.

Where is he today, no longer a child, i would not know him anyway,

A picture frozen in my mind, he will stay young for the rest of my life.

Kenneth, James, David, and cotero, i think of them from Kindergarten,

A boy named Grover, we were just little boys, innocence of a time now over.

Remember those friends from life’s morning until the night of your life,

So many names but special ones we think about as we travel along,” friends.”

Think of someone you once knew, take a moment, go back to your special place,

I think it’s suppose to be this way, a reason we go through phases and changes.

There are times when friends must be left behind, some with us for a lifetime,

Remembering friends who are out there somewhere, do they remember.?

FRIENDS FOR A LIFETIME

FRIENDS FOR A LIFETIME

When old friends look at each other what do they see,

Old men and women or still in junior high as once they would be?

Life long friends and companions see that same young smile,

Those same bright eyes as once when you were a child.

Strangers see strangers as just another person, maybe old,

We see one another the same just as we were so long ago.

You may see us as old but what we see are friends of youth,

Friends for a lifetime, we see faces that we have forever known.

FREEDOM, LAND, AND LIFE

FREEDOM, LAND, AND LIFE

What does it all mean, has the value changed from the beginning,

Did we really start out free, pick a spot to call our own, a home.

How free are we, only as much as they say we can be,

Freedom appears lost, you own a piece of land, taken with a powerful hand,

You work and sweat, blisters on your hands, how long will you stand.

Life is precious, thrown away, discarded through a world of wars,

They will take your life if it’s worth the price, whom tells the lies?

Freedom, land, and life, taken away with a flash of light.

FREEDOM OF SPEECH

FREEDOM OF SPEECH

Freedom of speech, the words, phrase, and the meaning are not clear,

It Is our right we are told that speak we may In public our own way.

There Is no such thing as saying what you’re thinking out loud In the streets,

They say that It’s your right but you better be careful of what you are saying.

How much freedom of speech do we really have, I do know not that much,

I had my Attorney tell me about freedom of speech, that anyone can say what they want.

There Is no freedom of speech In the work place, try It and see what happens,

Management can not call you names, sing songs over the radio about you and your problems.

They can not make fun with a tune about the tragedy’s Of your life In front of customers,

Stress and harassment are the words that come to mind, Ignore them Is not an option.

There may be freedom of speech to a point but there Is something called rights,

People are killed depending on how they choose to use their speech, there are rules.

Watch what you speak as there are those with the power to make you go away,

Freedom of speech Is a right, there are consequences when not done the way some

Want, watch what you say, freedom of speech holds a high price today.

FOUR SEASONS

FOUR SEASONS

” WINTER”

The bears begin their hibernation, plants slow down,

Shadows are seen across the mountains, they appear cold.

Trees are empty, naked without leaves, chilly days are here,

The sun shows its face in the morning a little later, to bed now early.

A time for some beautiful snow, a warm fire that gives a bright glow,

It’s Winter and Christmas will be here soon, a time of magic.

“SPRING”

As the temperatures rise just a bit, plants begin to awaken once more,

The sun shines brighter, the snow melts from the mountains everywhere.

Days are full of difference, warm or cold there’s new life all around,

It’s Spring! a walk in the park, a hike in the hills, stars in the clear night sky.

“SUMMER”

Warmer become the days, much warmer as the heat rises, the sun stays,

Rise to the morning, down to the beach where the breeze blows from the ocean.

Walk along the shore, feet in sand, above is the sky, blue with a mixture of clouds,

Camping, boat rides across the lake, sail beyond where an horizon line ends.

“FALL”

Days become slowly shorter, leaves falling from trees, colors of yellow, orange, green,

Fall, cooler weather, Halloween and trick or treat, a breeze is in the air, a change is here.

Thanksgiving is close, thoughts of pilgrims so long ago, turkey and a feast, celebrate,

Beautiful images in places where there really are four seasons to be looked upon.
