“FENCES”

God created heaven and earth so that we could live together,

I was thinking as i walked down the street, i looked at a fence,

Touching it with my hands i realized a man would have to climb,

To get to the other side he would have to go beyond where was legal.

This is my space!, you can’t come near it, since the beginning of time,

The world was meant to share, be free to roam, we started building fences.

Around our land, fences to keep others out and mark our territory,

It’s all been broken up into pieces, always a fight that leads to war.

How can any one man or nation own a piece of the sky, stay away they say,

Beyond the sky, do we all have a right to it or is it claimed by the powerful.

Stay away from here!, this is my ocean, be warned or we go to war, do you hear.?

No drink of water for you, someone else owns this lake, river, or stream,

Dirt is not free anymore, there’s a price to be paid, money to be made.

Be careful as soon the air we breathe will not be free, who takes charge i wonder,

If we lived as one and shared the land, there would be room for every soul and man.

MR! CAN YOU SPARE A DIME?

I am a human being, Dirty are usually my clothes,

Don’t judge me by the way i look, i have something to say.

I was born to this world equal to all other women and men,

The road we’re on isn’t always our road chosen but we move on.

Many days and nights experiencing life have made me who i am,

Choices of my own desire, mistakes of foolishness have put me where i stand.

Did i try not hard enough, perhaps my brain did not have a steady plan,

Inside of me there exists a heart of a human, treat me like i matter if you can.

Mr, can you spare me a dime? I’ll be forever grateful whether you believe it or not,

To you a dime is nothing, wondering do you what this coin can possibly do for me.

A collection from this as the embarrassment may not show helps me greatly, thank you,

Mr, can you spare a dime? If so then my day will be fine, Mr, can you spare a dime.?

A SUMMER NIGHT

When the sun goes down and the heat of day fades,

A quiet visits the night, crickets are alive yet not in sight.

Darkness has a certain feel to it, peaceful is my thought,

While many living things drift off to sleep day begins too.

Stars so bright hanging in stillness beyond what is sky,

The moon shows its light, high above it watches always,

A Summer night has its own beauty till mornings light.

HE HAD A DREAM

He use to be, he walked as a man,

Growing up as a child, harder than one could have imagined.

With strength and courage he stood for the fight,

So many against him as he marched for what’s right.

At times so scary to speak what you believe,

Most just complain, Oh! not he.

It took a demon, the devil in disguise,

To take from him what he told from inside.

He was once a boy but grew to become a man,

To tell of his cause as he walked with the people hand, in hand.

His name was Martin Luther King,

He was not forgotten because of an ignorant mans bullets ring.

He had a dream,

He was a man,

His dream is alive. Keith Garrett

EYES OF JUDGEMENT

A blind date, that first look at a face or body,

Can we see beyond a physical sight, first impression.

A first layer of beauty, the shape of a face and body,

Some eyes can not see beyond what’s in front of them.

A thicker layer of handsome and pretty rests much deeper,

What you see may not be that which you get, take another look.

Beauty is at times not so skin deep, underneath can be most amazing,

Eyes of judgement are fast and mean, without heart or care the world is seen.

“ADRIFT”

“ADRIFT”

What is a sea that has no shore,

Where it’s weary waves can rest?

What is a night that has no stars,

Where the seas and skies caress?

What is a sun that fails to shine?

Just a heaven void of soul.

What is a dream that has no theme?

Just a mind that lacks a goal.

What is a love that can’t be shared,

When love is based on two.?

Lost and alone, lord without throne,

Am i when without you.

ALONG A COUNTRY ROAD

These things I might find strolling along a country road,

From my mind I can create a day or reality along my way.

I see the sun rising in the early morning sky, my day begins,

Dream do I of a perfect setting, fields and hills of beautiful color.

Nothing can go wrong, not in this made up scene that I want to be,

Swim do I in a pond that appears along a country road, quiet and alone.

There is a wind blowing through the trees, across the field I feel,

Hay stacks scattered in a country dream, a farm where I wish too be,

Along a country road all possibilities unfold, from a dream, all that can be seen.

FADES, DOES THE PICTURE

A reel to reel movie, a painting so old,

An old photo album covered in dust.

Growing up in a town long since gone,

Relics, skeletons from our yesterday.

Memories are not so clear, gone with the years,

Sometimes forgotten, at times not remembered.

Blocking out things we wish no longer to see,

The mind is a special place of reality and fantasy.

Sometimes we try to go back from within, inside,

Finding that we are lost, our way is like a fog.

Fades, does the picture, scenes of our time,

A little taken away, as we age from day, to day.

I REMEMBER

So many sunrises, so many sunsets ago, i remember,

A place not forgotten, seemed like magical moments.

A town lost in time but never in this man’s mind,

A friend with a name that’s been spoken from inside.

Where did you go when the sun set young man,

Forever have you disappeared from me, where are you.?

I remember when we walked the streets of Yorba,

We were free as two boys could be, Summers of yesterday.

Treasured are for me those wonderful days in the sun,

Skateboards and less troubled times for boys that could run.

A moment never drifts by that i don’t recall my friend known by me,

Marty was your name, pictures of you remain locked inside.

Something not finished, regrets and memories of less painful days,

I know of your loss fore i have lost too, take a walk back in time dear friend.

I live each day in a place that knows my name, home is far away,

A wish to stand before you and say thank you for a day in the sun with a friend.

FACES IN THE WATER

By myself as i am sitting beneath the warm, rising sun,

There exists a slight, cool, morning breeze around me.

Watch i do as the tall, dancing, trees stand high above,

Rays from the sun shine through the branches of leaves.

What surrounds me this day is taken for granted beauty,

The quiet is an always wanted gift that will never go away.

The calm pond water rests around me while i think and dream,

When i look down to find my reflection i see not me but that of other days.

My thoughts take me to yesterday, far, far, away as if it were today,

The water is quite still now like clear, shiny, glass, i drift off like a dream.

Faces in the water, clearly i can see with memories faces in the water,

Days of old, friends scattered with time are seen floating in the sun.
