I thought i’d call to you and talk awhile,
I’m sitting here alone, I’ve been thinking.
What can i do to make this world a better place,
Let go of anger and sometimes terrible thoughts.
Do not waste this time that I’ve been given,
Smile and say hello to a passerby.
Lend a hand to a less fortunate soul,
Put a little trust in man, this I’ve been told.
Do not take a life, be there for a friend,
Teach a child right from wrong.
Love as much as you can, hate is not a gift in hand,
Do not steal or act in violence,
I’ve been thinking god, I just needed you to listen.
Keith Garrett
Thank you for liking my blog Keith – this is a very heartfelt poem which resonates with so many people. The last line very meaningful – so many people just want to feel valued and be listened to. We all struggle with difficult thoughts, decisions, beliefs, desires… you’ve put into words what many people can’t.
says it all
in a nutshell
we are more similar than different
some of us ..
Thank you for finding my blog. There is a world of thinkers out there…we’re content with the toys in our head, shy in crowds, and faithful to a fault. We’re good.
What a beautiful gentle reminder of how wonderful life can be; ideals worth striving for.
Thanks so much
Beautifully said. And so heartfelt.
Thanks so much

Thank you for liking my recent blog. I love your poem.
But of course, how can I not like this! How many of us think this… yet how many of us do something about it? Lovely in its simplicity. Also, thank you for stopping by to say hello to ‘joy’ in my neck of the woods. 🙂
Thank you always
It resonates with me! I think the ‘better part’ in each of us connects with your words, which prompt us to remember our good intentions…and put them into practice! Thanks for sharing and stopping by my site. As I say with my writers’ group – Write On!
Thanks for your thoughts

I don’t like much poetry, though I write some and like my own, and I like this. I’m also not religious, but I like the idea that you had some thoughts to share with God, and yet it also seems like it’s the other way around.
Lovely poem, Keith and thank you for ‘liking’ my blog post Summertime Falling Down with the Delmore Schwartz poem. Dianne Beeaff

Some times the best gift we can give someone is the gift of really listening to them. Nicely put.
Yet there is hope for (wo)mankind. I believe The Golden Rule will last forever if it’s used.

Great words… So true
Nice poem. I hear a little bit of the human condition in there. We all do deal with that and I think that your reflection of it is refreshing. It is always nice to see people asking the same questions as we are because for many people it may be the first time that they realize that they are not alone with those questions.
