REMEMBER ME

I go outside to the things i’ll see,

A life of pain, not simple or free.

I walk and wonder of what i’ll be,

If i get old as the sea.

There was a time i was just a seed,

I grew and grew to become me.

The day will come when it’s all done,

I’ll leave behind a daughter, a son and a son.

I will laugh, you’ll hear no cry,

There is no time to sit and die.

What will they think of, my children these three,?

That i love them all, one, two, three.

I have a girl, a boy and a boy,

Everyday they bring me joy.

There was a time i was all alone,

No daughter or sons to call my own.

Each day you live remember me,

I’ll always love you, yes! you three.

Look to the sun, the stars, and the moon,

We shared all the Summers, they started in June.

When we take walks together to all kinds of places,

In all sorts of weather, we see all the faces.

We play at the park, you laugh at each other,

I’ve been your father but also your mother.

I’ve walked you to school year after year,

And given a hug when you show a tear.

Sometimes you don’t like me, i make you mad,

For the decisions i make, just call me dad.

As you grow up you will understand,

I walked with you all and you all held my hand.

We all start out small and grow to be tall,

As children we believe in magic you see,

Life wakes us up to reality.

With love from dad,

Sean, Scott, Sarah

  1. The criticism is: “As children we believe in magic you see, Life wakes us up to reality.”
Or do you mean to say you’re still a child inside? I’m turning 62, yet “I am the mother and the Maiden” – (from my “Dedication to the One…” in my second collection of poetry.)

  2. It is plain you see your children as the most incredible monuments you could leave…you are blessed, there are some of us with whom whatever part of us that became from the first moment and lived in us will perish as we perish. I do not say this with sadness, I just share your joy that your seed continues.

I would also like to say thank you for your kind attention to my fledgling blog.

  3. Your lovely sentiments hit home… All my best wishes as you continue your writing journey… My best wishes as well to Sean, Scott, and Sarah…

Thank you for following my blog, thefinalcurtain1.wordpress.com

  4. Beautiful words. As parents, we all like to think we leave a positive imprint on our children and hope they cling to the wonderful things about growing up beside us. I am happy you visited and are following my blog. I am not following yours as well. I love poetry. I love expression. Love and Light to you.

  5. I reblogged this poem because I love it so much. Below is a comment that someone made on my page about “Remember me”…

Indeed. Parenthood takes on a whole new gamut and perspective in life. The beauty of parenting, it seems is to grow with your child. Have you ever truly observed the electrifying and intriguing connection between a child and the parent(s) he/she is close to? It’s simply incredible! Growing with the child requires indefatigable patience and fun-loving approach. The fun-loving spirit will give you the resilience to run around the room, bed, living room, porch, yard (you name it); and the patience will assist with coping with their temperamental disposition. Look, children just want to be free – free to be in a good mood now and free to be sullen the next moment. They need to be free to have what you can afford to provide him/her with to eat and free to refuse the next day. Nonetheless, parenting is a gift and an unbelievably fulfilling experience. And, yes, becoming a parent alters your outlook on life. Have fun raising those angels guys!
