THE YORBA LINDA I KNEW

THE YORBA LINDA I KNEW

I think of nineteen seventy two when we first visited yorba,

From the freeway i could see the big hill, i was ten years old.

We drove past fairgreen, up over the hill and down around the corner,

Amberdale to Fernglen, there it was, our new house not yet finished.

So excited as we walked around the yard not yet designed, up the stairs.

A sunny day on a Saturday, our blue station wagon and a large family.

That day we met some of our new neighbors to be, the Darcy’s, Bob and Ken.

We left but soon would be back, our life in Yorba soon would begin.

May i remember, so close to Summer and a little hard to adjust starting at a

new school with only a month remaining. I started at Glen knoll On May 7th that year.

I was a very shy kid back then and the school was so different from where i came from.

My years there hold many great memories of friends either gone or found again on face book.

The Yorba Linda i knew was as i like to call it the Brady bunch days because of the houses and time.

Summer nights were the best, hanging out on our street with friends whom are now a little older.

Music and shows of the time were classic, do you remember the Yorba Linda i knew.?

The hills where we use to go riding motorcycles and horses have disappeared, better days.

Changes are not always for the best as beauty is destroyed, buildings everywhere.

Riding bikes to Tastee freeze, the old baseball field where kids could play and dream.

A triple Icecream for fifteen cents, doughnuts at Winchell’s, people and places disappear.

Pinball machines and Boones farm wine, Stop n’ go liquor from a long time ago.

A place called the Rathole, a shack stood by its side, riding skateboards in a pool,

Remember the teachers, everything that we did, talking by your locker, the best days are of old.

  1. I remember my neighbourhood being like this. Our whole country was like that then it all changed. How does a whole country change? Now we live in Belgium and it’s like Yorba Linda again. Love it.

  2. It’s exactly as I remember we were the same coming in 1972 in my dads blue Torino wagon. Family of 11 looking at our new house just a slab then my dad telling his dreams of building our game room which he sure did. I so enjoyed your story it’s just how I remember.

  3. WOW! I can’t believe you remember the rat hole. I too moved to Yorba Linda in 1972. None of the skaters I talk to heard of that place. It was the first pool I ever skated. I also went to Glen Knoll.
