I SAW MY FATHER

I saw my father fifty two years ago, today I saw,

When I was one he was so real, I don’t remember.

I saw my father today from an old movie made,

Although he is not here, he was very real.

From many days ago I did see him move in motion,

Today after almost forty six years I watched him dance.

From nineteen sixty three, fifty two years ago on a screen,

The last time I saw him real was nineteen sixty nine,

From nineteen sixty three I saw him dance with life happily.

  1. I like you poem. I guess we each see our parents in one way or another. Early one morning I looked in the bathroom mirror and saw my father. Then I realized it was me.

    • My father died in 1969. I received a DVD converted from a home movie from 1963 in the mail. That’s the first time I saw him in motion, alive since I was 7.

  2. Loss of a father is so sad, at any age.
It is an experience that stays with us forever.
I was fortunate to have my father until I was 45 years old – but the memories are still vivid since that day in 1988. I saw him in a dream one night – he was sitting in a chair and had my granddaughter on his lap – I wrote a poem about this. Our granddaughter was just a toddler at the time I had this dream – I’ve written a number of poems about him as well as my mother.
