What does it all mean, has the value changed from the beginning,

Did we really start out free, pick a spot to call our own, a home.

How free are we, only as much as they say we can be,

Freedom appears lost, you own a piece of land, taken with a powerful hand,

You work and sweat, blisters on your hands, how long will you stand.

Life is precious, thrown away, discarded through a world of wars,

They will take your life if it’s worth the price, whom tells the lies?

Freedom, land, and life, taken away with a flash of light.

  1. That was very apt in terms of our freedoms and for what we have worked towards and for, and lends to what I am trying to do today:

We have 100 contributions to date, and I am trying again to rope in as many contributors to the Poets for Peace challenge (in place until this the end of August). The many voices in response to this have been fantastic, and I’d love you to add yours (again, if applicable) if you can. Feel free to use an existing piece of writing or a new one asking for peace and the troubled times in which we live.

If you are interested, please leave your poem in the comments section of Neha’s bog and it will be added.

    Thank you –
    Your voice matters.

We need to open our eyes, we’ve been blind to long,

Look what’s happening to us, there’s something very wrong.

Alone it won’t be done, we must do this together,

All of us take for granted a world we live in is forever.

Overlooking the pollution we pass by each day,

Leaving it to another to make it go away.

Poisoning the resources we must have to survive,

These things that we do, one day surely we will all die.

It’s now time to change, make a difference each one,

To save mankind, let’s all stand as one.

How much longer before it’s to late,

Why do we tempt the thing we call fate.?

It’s a crime what we are doing to the ground and our sky,

It’s time to stop now, it’s our time to make things right.

We can make it work if it gets done now,

To hesitate and delay will only bring sorrow.
