WHAT LIVES IN A POEM?

WHAT LIVES IN A POEM?

A poem is beautiful, It can be anything that you wish it to be,

What lives in a poem,? Imagination of the wondering mind.

It can take you away, a vacation of choice to anywhere out there,

A dream that lives inside, written words that greatly describe.

What lives in a poem are the memories you carry around always,

Sad happenings of realistic times, happy, wonderful things that define.

Your thoughts and all that makes you whom you are,

To write, to make that what lives in a poem come alive.

What lives in a poem can be any place you want to be,

You can go anywhere, write a fantasy life or live in a dream.

What lives in a poem is the real you and all that you see.

HAS ANYBODY SEEN THE RAIN?

WHAT HAPPENED TO THE RAIN?

Has anybody seen the rain,? it went away on a trip to where,

Lost is it, I hear it’s been seen roaming the sky over far off lands.

Why doesn’t it like to visit here anymore, it’s been such awhile,

I remember how the clouds would gather each time and get ready.

You could smell it in the air, the winds would change, lightning and thunder,

When it began to fall I would turn my face to the sky and let it drop upon my face.

It use to be a friend and water all the beautiful plants until it went away,

Now the land is in trouble as it begins to dry up, will it crumble and turn to dust.?

Will the plants and shrubs turn to brown removing their color as they slowly die,

When will the people feel the thirst as the precious water taken for granted

Is no longer there, what happened to the rain, will it ever return again.?

WHAT DOES THE LAND FEEL?

WHAT DOES THE LAND FEEL

We walk this earth each and every one of us, make use of its energy and life,

Once upon a time the world began and slowly many different plants formed.

Trees began to grow, tall with many leaves, what was needed to survive was here,

Times have changed just as man has also changed always learning to adapt to this world.

What does the land feel, do the mountains cry as the cut down trees crash and die,

What do the hills feel as they burn, is there much pain as the fire crosses the plains.?

Does the desert ever laugh through the cold nights and the long heated days,

Do the rivers feel peace as for centuries they have been traveled upon, they change but don’t go away.

Does the ocean smile because it’s free to move about or does it scream as it’s treated without respect,

Are the lakes everywhere filled with happiness or do they weep as toxic waste are dumped with no thought.

What does the land feel as over the years it gives the gifts to survive and in return destroyed without care,

Listen to the sadness of its cries, how long will it be till it says a farewell goodbye.

WHAT DOES A WISE MAN DO?

WHAT DOES A WISE MAN DO?

A wise man puts aside his anger before he drifts off to sleep,

A thinker before an act brings much trouble Into his life.

A wise man never bows down to the pressure from his peers,

He must trust In his heart fore his actions are his to answer alone.

A wise man has angry thoughts that hold no consequences from Inside,

If at all they switch to violence then a wise man has no words to be listened to,

What does a wise man do,? He practices In that which he does In fact preach,

He Is not a hypocrite, he Is calm and speaks his words carefully, a wise man Indeed.

He knows that words of stupidity are not a problem behind closed doors,

What does a wise man do,? he thinks before he does anything at all.

WESTERN WORLD

WESTERN WORLD

What was It like many generations ago exploring a new frontier,

Starting a life where everything was so uncertain and dangerous.

Indians and bandits roaming the land trying to everyday survive,

The Indians living off the land, bandits taking all they can.

Building towns where a man or family can start a business for themselves,

Settling outside this town you choose to live and start a family of love.

You’ll have to rough It for a while longer as you have for so long now,

Waking to the morning light, at times cold as a hot cup of coffee will do.

Working hard from sunup till sundown with a dream In your heart,

A cabin with a fireplace, rooms built for comfort, a roof over your head.

The old west was more than a saloon with gambling, drinking, and gunfights,

It was about survival, discovery of new places, and things accomplished back In a time.

Hardship and disease, many died, gave their lives for a better life, triumph and sorrow,

These people from the past paved the way for dreams and success here In our today.

The pioneers had more struggles than can be Imagined but also had to be tough and strong,

The old West Is no longer alive but they did leave their mark, a path across the wilderness.

They survive and live In those today whom overcome and succeed, worked through their pain,

The Western world has changed but the blood and souls from the past are burried, their spirits

May be among us In ways as they are also surely gone off beyond this world where peace Is theirs.

WE HAVE TODAY

WE HAVE TODAY

Remember yesterday as we ran through the fields of play,

Children of innocence had much to say, no worries of the day.

Tomorrow has no memory, are we even in its thoughts,?

Tomorrow is our hope, we have today, only today.

For granted is taken the mornings rising sun,

As we slip into slumber, will awake in our beds.?

We have today to breathe as we please, with our eyes we see,

Laugh today, hold on and love as much as we can.

You are energy, you are the raging waters that flow never ending,

You are the sparkle in the sky, the shining star that never dies.

Strength and power are you, stand tall and touch the sky,

Close your eyes, feel as your courage reaches far and wide,

We have today, my hand reaches for you, i am with you.

WE CAN’T TAKE IT WITH US

WE CAN’T TAKE IT WITH US

I am a man, you are a woman, from the moment we are born we age,

In this world we all have a chance to be and accomplish anything.

Never have I been one to believe In power or that one soul Is more

Precious or Important than another, this Is the way our world seems.

There are Kings and queens, rulers, presidents, those born with money,

Good and bad are those with or without, money makes not the man.

An actor, a singer, movie star are people who are by others worshiped,

Idolized as though they are magical, special In a way because they live on a screen.

Not to criticize that which they do but yes, all are the same as me and you,

We can’t take It with us, material things, none can we strap to our spirits.

We are each one of us the same In that we are human, blood and mortal,

We can’t take It with us but we can love what we have each day until we go away.

Keith Garrett

WE CAN’T ESCAPE OURSELVES

WE CAN’T ESCAPE OURSELVES

I guess that I don’t quite understand what’s been happening to our world,

We’re In It together, none of us can run away and hide from the destruction.

Everything Is taken for granted as If we are owed something from somewhere,

One man Is waiting for the next to take care of the problems that exist.

I think at times we all try to hide and close our eyes to make It go away,

Our world Is being destroyed for money, the mighty dollar Is evil In a bad hand.

There is so much wrong doing from one side of the globe all the way around,

The world Is not bad, those whom do not care, the ones whom will do anything for a dollar

Are the bad, Pollution, crime, and corruption are destroying gods beautiful creation.

He rests out there somewhere watching as we slowly fade away one day,

There Is much more to say but we can’t escape ourselves until our day to go away.

WATCHING THE HORIZON

WATCHING THE HORIZON

Early morning with my feet sinking in the sand, I stand,

A breeze swirling around me as I gaze upon the waves.

The sound of them crashing on the beach is quite peaceful,

Water makes its way swiftly up to my waiting feet.

The sun rises from the dark to see the day, I watch as the light shines,

Watching the horizon line as it separates the now from the other side.

There’s a whole new world out there beyond what is seen in front of me,

Amazing as below the moving waters lives a world like no other.

Creatures of number travel and exist together beneath what we know,

Still a mystery is the ocean floor, I stand here in the sand in amazement.

Watching the horizon takes me away to many places I’ve not yet seen.

WANDERING IN THE DARK

WANDERING IN THE DARK

There have been times in my life when I have stumbled, fallen,

I have always picked myself up and endured what has happened.

I have wandered in the dark many times in my life, not in the physical sense,

At times lost and alone was I as a child growing up, a sense of fear filled me.

Being shy, not very big as there were bullies of the world lurking in the shadows,

Wandering in the dark as I could not see the possibilities or answers all around me.

To be strong mentally, to achieve by pushing on, overcome obstacles never so great,

When you can understand that you need not fear another man as he like you is of flesh and blood,

Stand strong just as once a man of flesh and blood stood for what he believed, possibly some fear.

To wander in the dark comes in many forms, to find the light, see it, takes a little wisdom, strength,

And a belief in yourself that you are as important, special, and faith will guide you by the hand.
