MY MIND IS AN ISLAND

My mind is an island, many places to roam,

Different things that i see when i’m on my own.

If wander i do to far away,

Lost might i be in this land made for me.

See as i do and think as i may,

There are beautiful things in my thoughts everyday.

I can find my way back to where it is i should be,

If i’m looking the right way or a trail i might leave.

My island can be peaceful and sunny or stormy and dark,

I’d rather be happy and have my island be a walk in the park.

SHE’S A DREAMER

She sits under a clear, starry night sky,

Praying to the night, wishing, just wishing.

Flowers all around this beauty of the night,

Long flowing hair with a body so nice, she.

She’s a dreamer, alone but peaceful, never lonely,

She’s a dreamer, happiness lives within this princess.

LEAVING IT ALL BEHIND

I stop where i’m standing looking around,

What is this madness born to us all.?

Leaving my work, my home, and the things known to me,

Go away to a place up high, way back in the hills.

There are no people of judgement to listen to,

The loud sounds of tragedy lost in my travel.

There is no anger or the struggle to survive,

Out here only nature to hear me cry.

Leaving it all behind,

The life that was once mine.

IF I HAVE TO DIE, IT NEEDS TO MATTER

A day will come when this will be, could be a sunrise, a sunset no more,

I can not imagine being gone, leaving this world behind appears unreal.

A life is special, all life as it is to be celebrated, the mark you leave behind,

Regrets, that which never was or could not be accomplished is a thought.

Our purpose for being here as it is only a short time compared to the birth of time,

What is it that’s to be learned from our visit to a land with more mystery always.

Discoveries are made as we search and explore a world so large but appears to get smaller,

What we have learned has helped our survival just as it does damage just the same.

If i have to die it needs to matter, I pray that i will one day be heaven bound,

If i have to go away then before my journey I wish to help another live one more day.

AWAY FROM IT ALL

Life as i know it left far behind, stored quietly,

Kept in my mind somewhere but not forgotten.

On an island, one of many seen by these eyes,

Waves crashing on the beach for me to see.

Sitting here in the sand just thinking about,

There are sounds heard but only of nature.

Palm trees are many in this world, across the sea,

What’s needed only brought with me, only needed.

Away from it all is where i need to be, can you dream,

On an island of wishes and a mans fantasy.

THROUGH DIFFERENT EYES

There we are together standing as the sun disappears,

Only a lonely tree keeps us company, we are alive!.

Many colors rest in the open sky as day turns to night,

We stand together yet apart with our own vision of life.

Through different eyes, do we see the same things,?

As only our thoughts create a separate way of seeing them.

We are two souls occupying the same earth, dreaming, wondering,

Watching the world in two directions, seeing a different way, imagine.

LAST TIME I SAW HIM

It was early morning i do recall, many sunrises and sunsets ago,

To bed early that night before tomorrow would surely make a change.

Morning was morning as he opened the door to a new day, heading for work,

Like a dream those days past don’t seem real anymore, faded and foggy.

Last time i saw him i was a boy and he was going off to earn a living for the day,

Never again would he be seen by me or i by him as day by day time would change.

Seasons would go by, turning Into years as one day I would become as he was, a man,

I have existed in this world without him for most of my life, I have outgrown him in age.

I remember his time here with me, It was very short but he had his own life before mine,

His time as a child was also somehow the same as mine in that he played the same way.

He grew and became who he was, a navy man and a machinist who traveled during Korea,

On a ship to many countries he stopped, a journal and much poetry left behind as he touched the sky.

More than thirty four years after his son grew up without him, a very special package sent for Christmas,

Pictures of a father whose face was fading, a journal of his Korean war battle, and poetry, different than me.

Last time I saw him, a little boy standing with his father watching as he left, a final goodbye, touch the sky.

I’M ALIVE!

My heart beats, each breath taken is a breath to be not taken for granted,

The blood runs through my veins as every moment is a moment i’ll see.

There’s a fragrance of herbs in the garden, life lives around me darling,

The wind is felt upon my face as i watch the sun move across the open sky.

Something lost and something gained as another day slips away,

Never knowing what to expect from another morning born, i’m alive!.

The air we take in isn’t for free, the price we pay to live in gods’ mystery,

Love holds no promises, love comes to stay and love drifts away, i’m alive!.

We are the fortunate ones, if the chance is for us to laugh or cry one more time,

Share a kiss, a hug, take that last walk with a love along the ocean shore, once more,

I’d just like to say i’m alive!, ” yes darling” everyday i’m alive!.

A PICTURE

I stand here watching as I am not noticed but observe I do,

By an old, leafless tree I watch this scene hidden in the shadows.

A long time ago I see in front of me an old farm house of red,

Old, withered, fences surround the house and land, many trees in the distance stand.

A sky of clouded blue is a part of this picture seen from my eyes,

To the left of me slowly walking is a young man and horse,

Their shadows follow along as they head on down the road.

Covered with leaves is the ground as the look and feel of Fall is around,

A wagon sits unhitched close to where it is that I stand,

A picture from a long time ago, not recognizing where I am.

A picture of a place that once use to be, now just a picture of a memory.

AT TIMES I AM BLIND

Open your eyes! this is said from with inside as i seem at times blind,
There is so much to see but I must confess that what is important sometimes escapes my sight.
A blind man can not physically see but learns to observe more than a man with vision,
A man with no sight asked of me, tell me young man what things with your eyes do you see?
There are at times many things I wish not to see, pain and destruction from the world today,
What I asked was that which you see not a thing about wishes or that which you do want to see.
I see the mountains, the ocean, the sky, and all there is of beauty that god placed down upon the earth,

Yes! at times I am blind to all of these things just as they are taken for granted by most every man.
You are a blind man, so who do you think you are trying to give me a lesson or too teach me?
Young man, are you a follower of those whom are of negative ways? take responsibility for yourself.
I am blind but in my time i have seen so much more than your seeing eyes can ever dream,
You are at times very blind, your eyes are open but it is a mans mind that is truly closed.
