IF ONLY ONE MORE DAY

Heard around the world, Just one more day, the world will go away,

Run for your lives, hysteria and mass confusion would break out.

There’s no place to go as humanity scatters and runs under the falling sun,

Pack up your things and drive far as the ocean rises higher and higher.

Watch as the mountains crumble to the vibrating land, no man will stand,

The heat will rise to temperatures of flaming fire, hotter and hotter.

When the rain begins to fall never will it stop, will you build an ark,

If only one more day then what precious words would you say.

What is it that a man or woman would choose to do, tell me true,

A last beautiful day, would you gather with family and pray.

Spend every moment with a love with much to say,

See all there is to see or panic, wasting every last minute screaming in the street.

If only one more day then how would you spend it, with your children would you play,

To god would you speak and ask forgiveness before it’s to late,

How about thanking him for the life he gave you and all the beauty he let you see.

WHAT MAKES A WOMAN CRY?

Suddenly a love says goodbye, a reason why does not matter, she cries,

A husband lost and gone away as he fades into the mist, dies as she cries.

Off to war a son grows to be a man, battle does not make a man, cry does she,

A daughter becomes a woman and wears the ring of her love, no more a little girl.

Life goes on as a woman again finds the love that heals the loneliness inside,

She cries when a man speaks of his love, a ring on her finger as life moves on.

Raised by a woman, a mother now much older and wise, a mother dies, she cries,

Taught by a father morals and the values passed on by a grandfather she knew.

What makes a woman cry,? Is it happiness found or sadness suddenly found,

Could it be a friends heart break or a pet that passes on, cry in the night, she cries.

What makes a woman cry,? many things great and sad, a beautiful day, a tear it makes.

THE POETRY MAN

I’ve walked many miles and seen a lifetime of unfamiliar smiles,
Laughter doesn’t always show on these faces of our world.
When once i was a child dreams filled my head of magical places,
Fairy tales of witches and giants were stories told as i listened and believed.
Always words or thoughts filling my head as the pages added creating
Many stories to books of a mans wanderings throughout a land of years,
Writing, putting down words and thoughts on paper to tell a story, a poem.
A piece put together of a picture seen from eyes that wish, from ears that hear,
Everyday scenes taken in, books stored on the shelves of my mind to be shared.
My hopes, opinions, thoughts sent out to all people, poets of the world whom will
In return share their thoughts, search their minds in an effort to also understand,
I am the poetry man, take in my words, i’ll read what’s written from your hands.

BAREFOOT IN THE SAND

A beautiful Autumn day, the sun shines down, away to the ocean to play,

The horizon line appears so close before my ageing, same old face.

Up high the sky holds many fantastic colors to a wanderers sight,

Watch as the musical waves play their tune of life in our everyday.

If i could stand upon the waters then a fantasy would be mine for the day,

Within the wind there are many stories to be heard, to be told.

Along this ancient shore we stroll barefoot in the sand, woman and man,

Holding hands while the water from a beginning, from far off lands

Wash up and touch our feet, wet sand felt by a woman and a man.

Yes! here we are walking barefoot in the sand, walked upon by many a man,

Peaceful as i close these tired, dreaming, eyes as she guides me along hand in hand.

Breathing the ocean air with that thought that nothing could be better as I’m alive,

Forever barefoot in the sand, a plan that should have been realized by all humans.

Staring out at forever, a cool, late afternoon breeze as the sun is setting into the water,

She’s at my side dreaming thoughts of her own watching the tide come in.

For the rest of my life, barefoot in the sand, a poem and her hand.

SITTING UNDER A TREE

Beneath the sunlight she sat shaded under a giant oak tree,

Sitting there, her brown hair moving with the Autumn breeze.

She did not move, a smile on her face as she appeared to be enjoying the day,

Passing by i gave a smile and a wave, she gave no response.

Bothered as i felt, i stopped and said hello but from her lips was no answer,

Rude was my thought but maybe she did not wish to be bothered.

I was now curious so again i smiled and again no response, she did not look at me,

I did appologize but it appeared she did not want to listen, she just sat there.

There seemed to be much peace within her but why so quiet and unfriendly,

I think she just wanted to be left alone but maybe there was more.

The wind blew and i saw her move, she smelled the air, eyes closed,

There was the bark of a dog, she did not notice, a bird at her feet, she did not see.

When i asked of her name she did not speak, Sitting under a tree, now i see.

WHEN TOMORROW COMES

Keith Garrett

What will it be like when the night comes to an end and the sun rises,

In it does the day have plans special, beautiful, or the reality of sadness.

What will be different or the same, i do not know what is written for the day,

Will there be peace as all walk together in a world of much beauty and concern.

Whom might i meet that’s a stranger who soon turns into a friend forever,

Can great things happen with tomorrow, things better and more hope than yesterday.

When tomorrow comes will i be fortunate and blessed enough to be there,

Many will say goodnight for the last time not knowing they wander beyond to another place.

Is it any wonder we worry each day more than we should because we waste precious time,

We’re afraid to slow down as the competition to succeed is greater while we fear failure.

Just as yesterday is gone and today is growing old, standing watching the sun fade further,

I ask myself why we take many things given to us for granted, they’re cherished most

At a time when it’s time to say goodbye and when we lose, when they’re taken away.

When tomorrow comes, if you wake to the morning light, stop for a moment and breath,

Think of all the love, friends, family, and even the material things you’re blessed with.

Although those things are the least important we treasure them more than what should

Be held dear, i found out lately, health, our word, and i now believe the hand shake.

When tomorrow comes be a better you, I need to be a better me, when tomorrow comes.

A STORY I DO TELL

I come from a long time ago in a place, at a time, a time of snow,

Far back in the East where the cold wind blows.

I was born in a town, a memory of a dream sometimes Imagined,

A time in my life as real as this is my today fore that was this boys yesterday.

Only a child in a world far, far from here across the sky, through the years,

Playing with children, these friends whom owned names back in a day.

Amesbury, Massachusetts a land where i was made to exist, where i began,

Holds in my thoughts my long lost magical wonderland.

I have brothers of two and sisters that equal that of four in this time of ours,

A mother thought by me of never getting older.

My father whom i once sat on his lap as a small boy so many clock ticks ago,

Lives no more in my world, but exists in heaven above, and visits me in my thoughts.

Seven years old sometimes i find my way back to on Halloween night,

Nineteen sixty nine my dad at such a young age came home no more.

I think perhaps Keith that little boy also died back there once upon a time,

But now he’s come to join a different version of himself, Keith the man.

Together they will both live until they go back to before their beginning,

Up where dad is watching down on them as they live and play.

I just wanted you to know who i am, my name is Keith.

FAILURE IS NOT AN OPTION

Try, the only thing you have to do is try,

Incentive, ambition, in you the drive to strive.

Tired or not, whatever it takes, rise to your feet,

Get out of bed, put on your shoes, just move.

If life gets hard then get that much tougher,

When you feel you can’t make it through the day

Dust yourself off and do it anyway.

Hard work pays off, no place for the weak,

Failure is not an option, stand on your own two feet.

At times we’re dealt a bad hand,

Who will care when you quit, who will lend a hand.

It’s time to grow up, you must understand,

Don’t let life pass you by, you’ll end up with nothing.

SHE LIVED A LIFETIME

Keith Garrett
Tell me about your life grandma, where did you begin,?

Sit child and listen as i tell you about my life, a life you’ve just begun.

Once i was just a baby born from parents, a mother and father of love,

Living on a farm as many people of my time did and worked hard.

As a little girl like all children i had chores in the morning before school,

Feeding the chickens, bringing in the eggs, stuff like that my dear.

Off to school then i would go, a walk along the road through the field,

Horses around, neighbors working as they waived a morning hello.

After school again with the chores whatever they may have been,

Homework and possibly a swim in the pond with a friend you see.

As i grew older and my father died i helped my mother take care of our land,

My brothers were gone away in the war or far off with family’s of their own.

Some years later after my mother died i sold the land and went away to school,

I became a doctor and then married my husband whom was an engineer.

We had a great life together, children and grand children like you,

He’s gone now as i am an old woman with a lifetime in my mind.

Thank you grandma for this story, grandma died, she had a lifetime.

IN THE MIRROR

The morning came, as i got out of bed to the cold surroundings,

Headed to the bathroom as is usual to an opened medicine cabinet.

I closed it not really wondering why it was opened and brushed my teeth,

Quiet was the morning as i thought i heard my own voice speaking.

Imagination working i thought to myself, again but it was calling me,

An Eerie, long, whisper, perhaps a bit tired as i rationalized the moment.

Walking away i stopped and turned swearing i saw something in the mirror,

My skin crawled so i moved fast towards the door to get outside.

There was no one to tell because it would be i the crazy one indeed,

Whatever it was did exist, at least in the mind of a man now afraid.

I had to go back in there to see, too find out if it was real, was i crazy,

It wasn’t expected but when i looked in the mirror He as i now call him

Not it was there staring at me, eyeing me, a tiny sort of a being.

My heart seemed to stop as he pointed to his face, i was in shock,

I now understood that he was me, in the mirror i now could see.
