A BIG HEART

                   A BIG HEART

He was a small man but only in height,

He would lose his wife as a child was born.

Lou was his name, a man so kind,

Trying to survive, taking care of his daughter.

A job was needed, treated like some kind of freak,

Turned away, desperate, he would steal for a meal.

This is not who he was, why are people so ignorant
 And mean,

Confined to jail by one who did not care, a much
 Needed favor.

A daughter in danger, this little man with a big
 Heart was needed,

Risk his life he would, even for those who did look
 Down upon.

A big heart in a man who did appear to stand taller
 Than all.

PROMISES

                         PROMISES

Blood of a man spills' from a wound created,

From a wounded heart runs' blood unseen.

Broken will be our spirits' by those we trust,

These are the words' of men with no morality.

Promises are made with the slip of a tongue,

Easily spoken from minds' without thought.

Hearts' and souls', those with no dreams',

They take what they can, from their hands'
 They squeeze.

Promises, promises, words' with no character,

From those with no heart, broken, always broken.

KEEPER OF THE LIGHT

                   KEEPER OF THE LIGHT

Up In the air, he spreads' his wings,

He stretches to the heavens' and sees many things.

This God of the sun, keeper of the light,

Soars In the sky on an eternal flight.

So peaceful Is he, away up so high,

Forever and ever, this spirit will fly.

Keeper of the light, what do you see,

Beyond the sun, a mystery to me?

Through the wind you travel round and round,

Watching over this star, from you there's no sound.

I can only Imagine, you're a spectacular sight,

Fly way up high, keeper of the light.

WORDS AND MUSIC

                  WORDS AND MUSIC

A simple word, formed with others to create
 Conversation,

A tune heard passing by, music echoing in the
 Dark of night.

Words are every day, not heard from a deaf
 Man's ears,

Music is everywhere, there is nothing dangerous
 To fear.

Words can be scary, angry , sad, blue, words that
 Are true,

Music can take you far away beyond your same
 Repeated day.

Words and music, together become a beautiful song,
 A story loved,
An on going love affair, nothing has to go away or
 Ever end.

WOUNDS OF TIME

                        WOUNDS OF TIME

Innocence and pure, the new born child,

Day by day what's taught and learned.

With an eye that which is witnessed,

An ear, sounds of many spoken thoughts.

Physical pain, hurtful words that disable and
 Change,

Corruption and crime, nightmares of life that
 Torment The mind.

Like scars, lessons that make us strong,

Wounds of time sometimes alter a clean mind.

Can't is only a word, failure learned from weakness,

Our minds and bodies see battles over time,

Learn from them, survive, unkind are wounds of time.

WITHOUT ME

                       "WITHOUT ME"

You go home alone, pull Into the driveway
 And stare,
The house Is there and the dog Is barking,
 Calling your name.
The cat says hello as the evening sun drops
 Behind the clouds,
Windy Is the theme as Winter slowly drifts off
 Into sleep.
Spring dreams all that Is possible, from their
 Slumber they see,
Rise up friends' of nature and listen to the sounds
 That are life.
Through many windows are scenes of the past and
 The present,
Do you see me In one of those glass shaped memories,
 Do you?
Once wood taken and placed Into a brick layered dream
 Of warmth,
Dinner cooking on the stove as we watched the night
 Vanish.
Those you love rotate In a circle In and out of your
 Home,
They come running, they always come running back to you.

Shadows appear everywhere, on your walls, memories
 of days,
Walk around the pool, sit In a chair do I and wonder
 Who I am.
Not a secret by any means, a truth of love for
 Another's heart,
Where did you go, why did you fly away so high,
 Without me?
I was given a smile, your touch upon my skin, your
 Touch,
We felt each other, flesh to flesh from the outside In,
 Listen,
Without you Is me, without you Is beauty not seen,
 Without you,
 Without me Is you.

                                                                                       Keith Garrett

STRENGTH

                        STRENGTH

The lion Is strong and fearless as he roams'
 The jungle,

It Is known that he Is there, his crown Invisible,
 But seen.

There Is strength In a man whom stands' up for what
 He believes,

He Is strong and powerful with words' of knowledge or
 Silence.

Doing what Is hardest, doing what scares one but must
 Be done,

Facing ones' self In the mirror and admitting he has
 Faults.

Strength Is letting your emotions' show but kept In
 Control,

Knowing Inside there's a man although vulnerable.

 I am a man, I have strength.

A WAND OF MAGIC

                    A WAND OF MAGIC

In hand, a wand would make me a magic man,

Not even a word and crime would disappear.

I could stop time, rid the world of trash or pollution,

Take away the sick waters of rivers and oceans.

Murder on our land would be stopped with a hand,

The ill would be no more, cancer but a memory.

I could run fast or jump high,

A tear would be one less for all of mankind.

The cruel slaughter of creatures in the world,

With a wave from my hand, this would end.

A wand of magic need not be that of evil,

For love and good, the hand that holds this wand.

A wand of magic is not to be real,

We can wish, hope, and pray, that it all goes away.

               Keith Garrett

DREAMS

                       DREAMS'

Dreams,' like the hopes and wishes that rest
 In our hearts,

Some come true, If for us only a shattered few,
 Like you.

Dreams' are a look Into the future of our wanting
 Thoughts,

Reasons' and seasons' for them to be or be not.

Dreams' may bring love to a heart so lonely and
 Of care,

What Is a dream If never with another shared.

I dream of one day when a dreamers' heart finds mine,

We'll walk as one but two different lives.

DOES THE SKY DREAM

                   DOES THE SKY DREAM?

The sky Is always night somewhere In our world,

Does It dream as It sleeps, there where It rests?

Awake as It does to the morning sunlight,

In another place, It goes to bed again for the night.

There are friends' all around this wide open space,

That watch over each other In Its' universe.

Does the sky dream, always as It exists,

What would It say If to us It spoke?
