WE ARE NOT BORN BROKEN

WE ARE NOT BORN BROKEN

A baby newborn is to be pure, brought into this world,

Each one with the same chances and opportunities so it’s said.

Circumstances, Places we live, family trauma, scars are formed,

We don’t know prejudice, we are taught it and then act upon it.

See do we things not wanted, acts of violence that take from us,

Bullying, secrets in life that come to the surface, thought were a dream.

We all have our own story, we are not born broken, inside we can break,

Piece by piece we change, older we get, life can wear us down, it does.

There is a life of much possible happiness and great things, search it out,

Many people are in places for reasons of many, we began with hope and value.

At one time we were each one of us an innocent child playing and a home with family,

What breaks us, we wander from whom we are, we are not born broken.

BY THE CREEK IS WHERE I DREAM

BY THE CREEK,

IS WHERE I DREAM

Away from everyday, away from what is always seen,

To a place of peace by the water, where the grass is green.

Birds of song dance in the sky, here in solitude, this is I,

A giant oak tree that’s as old as many night skies, by the creek.

Myself searching for a dream come true, seeking in my reflection,

In the still water a face of a man staring at me, what does he see.?

By the creek is where I dream, lost wishes sleep at the bottom,

This always working mind tries desperately to awaken them.

I’m a different sort of man now, lessons of mistakes learned,

Taught by what and the who of that which is gone away.

Lessons learned from the no more, by the creek, by the creek

BEFORE AND AFTER

BEFORE AND AFTER

There was a time when I was not here,

No thoughts, no name or Identity were mine.

I had no pain or sorrow, not a thing for me to know,

Where was I before I became me, somewhere waiting?

A time will come when I am no longer here, will I have thoughts?

A name remembered, my Identity will not be this body or mind.

Again there will be no pain or sorrow, I will be somewhere else,

Before and after, heaven bound, where was I before my first sound?

I FOUND YOU IN THE DARK

I FOUND YOU IN THE DARK

I went to sleep last night, seemed to me that I was awake,

Clear were all things, not the same as would be a dream.

So far I did walk as seconds appeared to be a journey forever,

There were as I traveled odd and unusually mixed up scenes.

I heard your voice out there but what direction was not clear,

No control over where I am, my sleeping mind guides my way,

I was brought to you, I found you in the dark, darkness has gone.

I CAN SEE TOMORROW

I CAN SEE TOMORROW

So clear to me, clear to see,

Yesterday is gone, gone away.

Today will soon be in the past,

It will be yesterday, I see this today.

Tomorrow is not yet here, this is clear,

When it comes it will turn into today,

Soon disappear into yesterday.

I can see tomorrow, i see this today,

Many things to discover, what comes my way.

What’s out on the horizon still a mystery,

It moves forward into my life, to be my today.

I CAN CRY

I CAN CRY

Working hard is what I do, bruises and cuts are many too,

I know I’m strong but the pain is inside, so I can cry.

There lives in me the will to survive, I’ve walked fifty miles.

When my journey was done with god at my side, I can cry,

I can throw a football, hike up through the hills and fall,

I can run through a fire, defend my girl, I can cry.

I can cry when the world is at war,

I can be strong and I can cry some more.

When you lose a loved one or this world takes from you,

It is that I will cry, I am a man and any man can cry too.

To know that I can take care of everything I need in life,

When it’s time then I know it’s alright and that I can cry.

SEE WHAT’S HAPPENING TO THE NFL

SEE WHAT’S HAPPENING TO THE NFL

They make too much money for a sport that’s played,

A job to entertain and set an example for kids that watch each day,

Not at work, not on company time, we can’t do It, fired In the unemployment line.

Disrespectful, these men who kneel while an anthem of America is proudly sung,

It Is their right, freedom of speech by day and by night, not on the job, do It at home.

You don’t have to like It but stand as you should, you are an American, today not very good,

You kneel on the field, hide now within the locker rooms, men of character stand tall not sit down.

It’s a simple thing really, do your protesting In the streets, cry about It In your own home,

Anger and more people divided are the only things you are accomplishing In my opinion.

You disrespect those on your own teams as some are or have been a military man,

How can you stand together as at the same time you stand apart, disgraceful Is your only part.

Leave the politics off the field, play the game as now the game Is being truly affected,

Not as much fun to watch these days as always the topic and show remains the same,

How does a person kneel while singing the National Anthem? children are doing It, disgraceful.

See what’s happening to the NFL, so many don’t care to watch anymore, anger to go around,

Over something that really Is a personal Issue that should be kept away from the game.

AN OLD MAN

AN OLD MAN

I saw an old man, standing in the sand, with cane in hand, staring out at the horizon.

I asked of him what his thought’s were about,

He stared at me with a sigh and a smile.

I’m one hundred and three as I look to the sea,

I’ve outlived my wife and family.

I’ve had a life, seen many wonderful things,

Now an old man, old as the trees.

I say old man! what is it like to be one hundred and three,

I don’t know, I only know what it’s like to be me.

I asked of him, would you wish to again be a child,

He replied, my only wish is to again see my wifes smile.

I asked to him an old man, what’s the greatest thing you have done in such a lifetime,

His words to me were this, I married a beautiful wife, i walked with her in the sand,

I saw her smile, and now here I stand.

MASTER

MASTER

You sit back on your throne and watch the world spinning around,

You hear the angry sounds, words of hatred that shatter the grounds.

There Is screaming throughout the world, the winds are fierce with power,

There Is energy In fear and sorrow that destroys what Is all around.

Flood waters rise high within storms that cause many souls to die,

Why master do the angry seas wash away homes, why must people cry?

The earth seems to be roaring like a lion, stomping like a giant with anger,

Could it possibly be you master, are you with much anger over what man does?

Are tears from heaven so heavy that they wash away life and destroy land,

Will anyone ever learn before all has disappeared, acts of nature or a sign?

There is rumbling everywhere with sounds of what In the world Is wrong,

Master, you must be disappointed, perhaps not shocked as you know everything.

You saw this coming so why create such a masterpiece and watch It crumble,

One thing learned from disaster Is that people come together but how much is enough?

Master, about this world that you command, you named one who did really understand.

I AM A WRITER

I AM A WRITER

What’s a writer, One whom picks up a pen or types out stories,

Poems from the heart, words put together about worldly dreams.?

A great writer is to the world one whom creates the best poems and stories,

The one who does finish each writing is to me great fore they have created.

There are great writers in history, Mark Twain, Robert Frost, Emily Dickinson,

They had their own style, thoughts, and the way that they saw the world.

Who can say that we as writers are or aren’t great, we write and I say we are,

I have my own style and thoughts, I write from my heart, I am a writer!

I believe that my writing touches the hearts, souls, and minds of those who read,

I don’t have a famous name but it’s as good as any, I am Keith Garrett and I write.

My writing is my own, I have over two thousand poems that I share daily with you,

I hope they touch your day, know that yours does the same, we are great in our own way.
