QUIET SOUNDS

A butterfly floats through the air,

Up the tree a squirrel climbs high.

A far off plane, hear it far away,

The meow of a cat, water in a stream.

The whisper in the ear of a loving girl,

Ticking of a clock, time of the world.

A flag slowly blowing in the breeze,

Leaves falling from a tree, that’s what I mean.

Slowly a fire burns, crackling of the wood,

Quiet sounds of peace, these things that are good.

I’M FREEZING!

Cloudy and dark, as the storm rolls on in,

Quiet is the morning, soon it begins.

I’m outside in cold, cold air, beneath the sky,

I go about my work, a coldness comes and the temperature drops.

The rain slowly starts to fall, I become wet with cold,

I’m freezing! i’m freezing! water drops upon the ground.

My feet are wet, my hands sting in the air,

The rain keeps on falling, falling everywhere.

STRENGTH IN ONE

I am human, flesh and blood as is any man,

In me lives only one, I am like no other.

Like all human beings it is that I have weakness,

No man is so strong, we all own the burden of flaws.

I have only one body, one mind, a conscience of one,

Think do I of many thoughts, it i.s my mind.

Decisions are made and hold with them consequences,

In me a conscience, there’s a right or wrong road.

My body feels pain, my body feels sickness,

It can be weak or strong, I choose strength.

I am one, I overcome weakness, mind, body, and spirit I am strong,

Strength in one, the strength in me, the power is mine,

I shall forever overcome.

SIMPLE THINGS

Awake to the morning sounds, a cup of coffee, the sunrise,

Turn on the television, watch the news of the day, open the blinds.

Walk outside to the sound of the scrub jays waiting for peanuts,

Free it is to stare at the open sky, a walk in the morning is alright.

A conversation with a friend, a walk in the park, the shake of a hand,

Smoking ones pipe in the evening, sitting on his porch, the day was good.

A warm fire on a cold night, simple things, dinner with your wife,

Laughter is free, some advice and a smile is alright, a tomorrow in your sight.

Simple things are pleasures at times taken for granted, we are each one guilty,

There remain greater struggles out there, simple things even out all life brings.

I WALK ALONE

Never am I alone, I am a man whom walks alone,

On my own, through the streets, a path I choose.

Step by step it is my shoes that take me away,

These feet move fast and far along the road.

My thoughts are my companion as I roam the land,

This journey not always understood as I understand.

Miles and miles are mine to see, my footsteps are me,

Free to walk with the wind, shackles taken from my skin.

Not a prisoner am I to the everyday money game,

When I walk then I am in charge, I am the captain.

I walk alone fore there is in me a mission of purpose,

I walk alone, never on my own.

WHEN YOU GET WHAT YOU ASKED FOR

It is that we all have our wants, wishes, and what is not chosen,

Not satisfied with that which is before us, more, more, more.

What is asked for is not always what one gets, works both ways,

There are those amazing moments when a wish comes true,

When we get what we want, everything seems to go our way.

How about when you get what you asked for, all is so perfect,

There comes with any wish a burden, responsibility, a chore,

Think before you ask, when you get a curse may come attached.

WHEN A FRIEND CALLS

I was in the yard on this warm, sunny day, the phone rang,

The other end a friend from over forty years in the past.

We met when we were ten, basketball many times back then,

The last time were face to face it was nineteen eighty somewhere.

He was searching for a street, a job in my town, thought he would call,

We spoke while he drove, after his job was through, a mile up the road.

After all these years only a walk away, said he would call, a visit this way,

Things never stay the same, the world does change, friends forever drift.

Thirty five years ago and just a mile up the road were only a dream,

I couldn’t believe he did not show, not a call on the phone, a mile up the road,

Things are never the same, why do people become this way,

Should I feel a gift in the call or why did he at all?

“MY SON”

I have missed you as now you are grown,

No longer a little boy, a picture in my mind.

Where did you go, I once held your hand,

Walked you to school, played in the park.

You seem so far away from yesterday,

Not in distance as we spent part of a day.

So good to laugh and hear a sons voice,

In you rests a piece of another time and place.

I miss you from once a child, it’s been awhile,

For granted we take time, time has passed by.

“My son” I keep you always in my heart and thoughts,

I must worry just a bit, be safe each day, love from dad.

I AM MORE THAN A NAME

We are each and everyone human, being forgotten,

I have a name but I am much more than this I know.

Not so personal is our world anymore, strangers we are,

I am more than a name, a number, or identification.

A person that has no face or personality to the system,

I am here to let you know that I am real and alive.

I am more than a name, feelings come from within,

Tears are not imaginary, love and hope are daily thoughts.

There is more worth to me than those behind their doors know,

I am more than a name, so much more to say.

CARTOON LAND

Remember the Flintstones, they lived in Bedrock,

The Jetsons were from the future, they were up high.

Scooby-Doo looked for food, mumbled words, always scared,

Popeye the sailor man sought strength from his Spinach.

Felix the cat and his magic bag of tricks,

Milton the monster blew smoke from his head.

Johnny Quest out there in space,

They called him space ghost, a boy, a girl, and a monkey.

The fantastic four all had their special power,

Captain America fought for all that was good,

Gigantor the robot, speed racer in his magic car.

The Amazing three and Superman of course,

Magilla Gorilla, Bugs Bunny, or the Road runner.

Yosemite Sam with guns in hand, Elmer Fudd after the rabbit,

They come from fantasy, imaginations of dreaming minds.

All live together forever, many more of their kind,

In cartoon land, it’s there where you’ll find.
