JUST A LITTLE ABOUT ME

I was born In Amesbury Massachusetts in nineteen sixty two.

A mother, father, and in time four sisters and two brothers.

We moved out here to California in nineteen sixty six i recall.

I remember living in Lawndale and going to school in kindergarten.

When i was seven in second grade on Halloween night my dad died.

He fell off of a cliff in Palos Verdes in nineteen sixty nine, i remember.

The dreaming little boy found out that life wasn’t so magical after all.

I never stopped my dreaming or gave up on dreams as i went about life.

I’ve had my share of pain and disappointments as i walked my path.

I’ve had friends and family whom have disappeared and gone away.

I have had great times and memory’s through the years, a life.

When i was In Jr. high in Yorba Linda i fell on my head in P.E.

I had my first brain surgery when i was fifteen and told that i

Might die or be in a wheel chair, neither have happened yet.

I’ve walked fifty miles when i was told it wouldn’t happen.

I have three children, two sons and a daughter, I’m alive.

I’m fifty one, started writing poetry when i was thirty five.

I have a wonderful girl friend Kim, I dare to dream. Keith Garrett

  1. A writing style that is simple and honest: this is really the best advice for writers at any stage in the game. Kudos to you.

  2. Hey! Thanks for stopping by my blog earlier and showing a bit of support. I’m guessing (from what I’ve read from you so far) that you – more than, perhaps, most visitors I’ve had recently – will understand the battle we’re waging at the moment, to get kids with disabilities and their families out and about.

Thanks for your like – it’s lovely to meet you. 🙂

  3. I’m glad that you liked my post “Why I am not writing” and hope that you’ll visit again. From your poetry, I gather that you have a strong sense of the frailty and transience of life and want to make each minute count, not just for yourself, but for others. Sometimes, I think it takes loss or near loss to appreciate life.

  4. Great to how you have the bared turbulent weather. Life’s ups and downs are never easy to understand but we have a will to triumph over adversity. Anand Bose

  5. Thanks for sharing your story, it adds context to your writing. You have overcome trials that would have brought many people down. I appreciate your endurance and ultimately what must be a positive outlook on life! All the best to you!

  6. Dreaming is so important, and isn’t it wonderful that we now have this forum to share our thoughts.
Thanks for dropping by, I have enjoyed reading about you and your poems.

  7. You write like an upbeat person, a person anyone would benefit from being around.

Thank you for liking my QRPp post. I earned my ham license 26 years ago with the notion of putting a one-kilowatt phone station on the air. But the challenge migrated in the opposite direction, and I spend most of my radio time with one or two watts doing Morse code. One never knows, one just thinks he knows.

  8. What an amazing story. Your honesty is inspiring and I’ll recall it the next time I begin feeling sorry for myself over a trivial incident that’s to my unliking.
Many thanks for stopping by and visiting Mocha Muse. I appreciate the follow and will be back to read more of your poetry!

  9. Thanks for visiting my blog and following it. Your story is a difficult one, but well written. to the point, no frills. You still dream, which is the most important thing of all, because in a world which can be very brutal and very tough, sometimes,to escape into our imagination is the best medicine of all.

  10. Wow. Needed to hear this today. My sweet extremely bright 11 year old granddaughter, Emma, fell on the gym floor a year ago and badly bruised her brain. She is finally able to go to school full time again, but still has residual effects with balance, stamina and emotions. So glad to connect with you. Thank you for sharing. I think I was in my fifties when I heard a minister say, “Life is hard.” I had plenty of hard times before that, but since I’m a dreamer who lives in the untarnished future, I had never really faced that. He also said that for every goodie there’s a baddie. I actually have discovered by looking back that there are goodies for the baddies also, though sometimes they don’t show up for a long long time.
At 78 my marching song is “Persevere!” I have quite a few posts on aging, both humorous and serious. If you are a live in the future kind of guy, you might find them interesting.

  11. Hi Keith!
I love your “about me” testimony — it’s the kind of raw & real substance I’ve been drawn to more and more as I’ve “grown up.”
Thanks for liking my poem, Hiatus, and for following my blog!

  12. Stopping by, Keith, to thank you for your recent like on Shift Key and peruse your site. Well done. Although you were born during my high school years, it seems like you visited me at home when I was a child; you’ve been there (Horrible House). Take care.

  13. Thanks for the follow. I really like this introduction to you, in the form of a poem about your life. I am ten years older, and haven’t been through so much.
    Best wishes from England. Pete.

  14. Hi Keith. Thanks for dropping by my blog. I really appreciate it. This is a wonderful poetry, its a wonder how couple of words could convey so many emotions. And so many stories. I like your poetry Keith. Its nice having you around.

  15. Congratulations on your perseverance and ultimate success in life. You surely had a lot of obstacles to overcome. (By the way, my brother lived in Yorba Linda for about ten years – took a job in Florida in the mid-2000s.)

  16. Hi, Keith! I was also born in Mass, around the same time frame (give or take). My Dad is no longer with us, either… He had a Halloween birth date… Thanks for sharing, for caring, and for writing. We have many coincidences in common! You touched a chord with me. And, Keith is among the names that are my favorite(s)! Cheers!
