A PIECE OF THE FAMILY PUZZLE

Oh my god! I am finding my family, I lost them forever,

Were they kept from me through the years, another side.

They do live, exist in another time zone through much of my time,

Since a time when I was so young I have not again seen these blood relatives.

Distance and time take away what can never be replaced, lost years and some family,

They went about their days just as we out here did, cheated I feel but here I am.

A piece of the family puzzle has been found with some effort and wanting,

Still far in distance as a little closer we have become, one day at a time we find.

A family has grown back there in the Eastern snow, I want to go,

A lifetime ago I did walk down streets, stand in the snow where they still do.

We are separated by choice and decisions made a long time ago,

A piece of the family puzzle has been located, like a treasure discovered,

Lost between the East and the West, wherever did those days go.

JONATHAN

Jealousy for a young girl would soon turn to grief,

Wishing selfishly that her new born brother would never be.

Through coincidence and reasons only god knows, a brother dies,

Believing in her heart and mind that her bad thoughts are to blame

She travels far, high upon a mountain where closer to god she might be.

Tired, so very tired as she lays herself down upon the mountain ground,

Before she sleeps a prayer she makes to god for her brothers life in place of her own.

When the morning light shines this child awakes covered in warmth and a man with a smile,

Where did he come from as he asks how she slept and a bowl of hot porridge offered to her.

He asks of her journey there, he is a most unusual sort of man whom appears to possess much wisdom,

She speaks of her conversation with god as he listens with a look of great understanding.

“What is your name she asks,” I am Jonathan! this is my mountain and you are far from home,

I wanted to be as high as possible so that god would hear me when i said i was sorry.

Listen child!, It’s not your fault, he has made his decision, your brother with him, you with your family,

Was this a miracle that a father found his daughter high on a mountain, was he shown the way,

Where was Jonathan, was he an angel,? she shared time with him, never again was he seen.

DECEPTION

She, a mother and wife of a man she trusts,

He is a traveler of business to lands of the world,

Baseball cards become a clue, figure it out she will do.

A paper trail of money will lead her to a man she once knew,

Across many countries, she will seek him out, children at home.

A father who does not care, never a thought but money everywhere,

Deception, a most worthless type of human being, he does not see.

How can this be, he has a different reality, not things that you believe,

He is far away, leave him there, go home and start a life today.

WHEN YOU CAN’T ESCAPE YOUR DREAMS

When you drift off to sleep, a world of dreams and make believe,

Control them you can not as your mind shows you unusual scenes.

Happy or funny, they seem to make not much sense, what are they,

Horrible, scary visions sometimes repeated throughout a lifetime.

Lucky, feeling relief from some dreams, wishing you could stay in others,

The ones you are about to start having will be dreams of many screams.

You fall asleep, notice your fear as you try to awaken but dead asleep,

What are you thinking, are you in control, i don’t think so, you are scared.

Notice that you aren’t waking up as you slip deeper into a most terrible story,

It’s after you! can you see it, everything is dark so what chases you is where.?

When you can’t escape your dreams, what will you do, run faster, no place to go,

You can’t wake up anymore because you’ve been away to long, lost in the dark.

As you begin screaming inside your own mind no one can hear you, no sound,

What laughs at you, what are your greatest fears, forever after you while you sleep.

WHEN WE WERE THERE

WHEN WE WERE THERE

I remember when it was today, a long ago yesterday now.

It was our neighborhood, our Yorba Linda town.

When I close my eyes It is the sights I still see, do you remember me?

I can hear the sounds from yesterday when the wind is here,

The streets were crowded with fun and laughter of friends I knew.

When we were there our young energy flowed through this town so beautifully,

Friendships were taken a little for granted as we expected always would be.

I could walk outside on any given day and a friend seemed to be within sight,

We had our special friends but today I see that you were all special in some way.

The hills above my street were alive with trees and birds, a place we all went,

Those days when we didn’t sit inside playing video games or on our phones,

We sought out our friends, shared great times with memories that are here today.

Sadly it is that for most of us we can only visit within a computer, facebook,

At the same time it has come to be a blessing as we may never have fund each other.

A circle of friends from children we were, may our circle grow and come together again,

We left our childhood behind, only with time yet never lost in our minds.

Wherever you may be know that I think of you and will cherish all that we had

back in a time, those days in a great Yorba Linda community.

YOU DO NOT LEARN BY FORGETTING

Choices are made from early in our lives,

The bad we try so hard to forget, we remember.

Mistakes can be many as we walk our Earthly path,

A thought from our mind can alter our day so quickly.

Through tragedy and triumph we need to learn, never forget,

You do not learn by forgetting as you plan your everyday,

There are always surprises and road blocks that we must endure.

You do not learn by forgetting in a world of hopes and dreams,

Take a moment to think no matter what the outcome may be.

WAKE UP!

We hear it everyday, my husband, my girlfriend makes me sad,

An awful wife, my boyfriend is mean, I am not happy with my life.

When you listen to that same tune, they cry about it till the sun goes away,

How many chances do you give while they laugh in your face?

Who is the fool who does sit back and wait for them to come back again?

The same mistake? I don’t think so as what they do they know well,

When they are done playing it stands that a sorry and can I come home again.

Wake up! it is your fault as you whine and wonder why he will not change,

He disappears again, the same old game is played as you put yourself again in pain,

Wake up! Wake up! put an end to this sick game you both play.

WHEN IT’S RAINING

Through my window I see a morning of change,

A breeze of difference, a touch of rain I see.

The sky is moving, a heaviness rests above,

When it’s raining there’s a quietness that surrounds.

This day is different, not enough rain but to wash the dust,

Thankful for every drop we get, before our eyes life dies.

I speak of out west, California not so special anymore,

The rain is a stranger but we pray always for more.

WHERE GOES THEIR INNOCENCE?

They are all born to this world, a small child,

Running and playing, childish games without care.

Fairytale stories, magical places dreamed from the mind,

Kickball, Hopscotch, running wild, blowing bubbles, the innocent child.

Where goes their innocence, what takes away those childish ways?

This is how all was meant to be, they grow and lose their yesterday.

What happens to some of them as they turn hardened and of no heart,

How could they lose more than the innocence that once was a part.

Keith Garrett

OLD FRIENDS

Come to your mind at different times,

They rest in memories, thought of in a moment.

Some are here, closer than you know,

Scattered like the wind, they are everywhere.

Those we may find, lucky to have them around,

We find that they have changed in so many ways.

Hold onto yesterday and the faces of our friends,

Once in awhile a surprise from a voice never thought would be.

Old friends, ghosts in the traveling wind, do they live?

Are they around the corner, do they pass you by without notice?

Wherever you may be just know that I think of you,

As for you, I may never be a thought again as you move ahead,

Old friends can be the best, old friends may they be at rest.
